This is a butterfly blowing your goddamn mind.
When the snake-mimicking butterfly (dynastor darius darius) builds it’s chrysalis for the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly it builds this crazy thing, a great attempt at keeping itself from getting attacked during the 13 days it takes for the transformation.
The end result is, sadly, much less snakeish

Okay, I understand how evolution would make this thing more likely to survive if its cocoon looked like a snake... but how did it start to look like a snake in the first place? And how did it get better at looking like a snake.
I need Bill Nye or NDT in here.
